From the Department of Public Health…Flu vaccine is widely available at public health departments, doctors’ offices, grocery stores, neighborhood clinics and pharmacies. To find a location near you click on https://www.vaccines.gov/find-vaccines/. Flu vaccine can be administered at the same time as COVID vaccine, so it’s a good time to get your updated booster, too.

I love hanging out with all my friends, but too many in my car is a crowd. The fewer passengers, the more focused I am on the road. #MyRulesForTheRoad #TDSW22 Help save a life, share!

Seventh grade students are scheduled to participate in Vision and Hearing Screenings at Schley County Middle School on November 9, 2022. The vision and hearing screenings will be performed by certified screeners from Prevent Blindness Georgia’s Star Pupil’s: Healthy Eyes for Healthy Futures program and trained school district staff.
VISION SCREENING
The purpose of the screening is to identify children who have, or may be at risk for, vision problems and need a comprehensive eye exam by an eye doctor. The screening is NOT a diagnosis.
Vision problems are the leading handicap of childhood; yet most vision problems go undetected because they are not obvious to children or their parents. These problems can result in permanent vision loss if left untreated and may impact the child’s ability to learn, athletic performance, and self-esteem. However, early detection and treatment can, in many cases, restore normal vision.
HEARING SCREENING
Hearing is important for speech and language development, reading, learning, and social interactions. Even mild hearing losses or hearing loss only in one ear may interfere with academics. Children with undiagnosed hearing loss may appear to have poor attention or other learning problems. Hearing can change between screenings and hearing loss can be related to medical problems.
You will receive an initial letter sent home with your child if he/she DOES NOT PASS their vision and/or hearing screening(s), as well as follow-up communication from the screening staff regarding the results and recommendations for further evaluation.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in these screenings, please contact Mrs. Jamie Sellars at 229.937.2405.

Schley County Middle School's after school support program starts tomorrow from 3:15 to 4:45 for those who have signed up. Support will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from October 18th until November the 18th. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Green.
